Pokemon
Pokémon are peculiar creatures with a vast array of different abilities and appearances; many people, known as Pokémon trainers, capture and train them, often with the intent of battling others.
Young Satoshi has not only dreamed of becoming a Pokémon trainer but also a "Pokémon Master," and on the arrival of his 10th birthday, he finally has a chance to make that dream a reality.
Unfortunately for him, all three Pokémon available to beginning trainers have already been claimed and only Pikachu, a rebellious Electric-type Pokémon, remains.
However, this chance encounter would mark the start of a lifelong friendship and an epic adventure!
Setting off on a journey to become the very best, Satoshi and Pikachu travel across beautiful, sprawling regions with their friends Kasumi, a Water-type trainer, and Takeshi, a Rock-type trainer.
But danger lurks around every corner.
The infamous Team Rocket is always nearby, seeking to steal powerful Pokémon through nefarious schemes.
It'll be up to Satoshi and his friends to thwart their efforts as he also strives to earn the eight Pokémon Gym Badges he'll need to challenge the Pokémon League, and eventually claim the title of Pokémon Master.

Arriving on the Grapefruit Islands, Ash discovers that there is a Snorlax going from island to island and Snorlax was responsible for eating all the grapefruits. Ash is employed to help stop the greedy Snorlax, but the Snorlax proves to be slippery. Later on, with the help of Jigglypuff, Ash captures the Snorlax.

EP95 - Navel Maneuvers
The group arrive on Navel Island where Ash finds himself up against the Gym Leader, Danny, as Ash competes for his second Orange League badge. Misty attempts to tempt Ash by showing a more caring attitude to Danny. Ash once again gets jealous and sad.

EP94 - The Joy of Pokémon Filler
Ash and his friends meet a Nurse Joy who does not run a Pokémon Center of her own but instead travels between islands on the archipelago which are too small to have a Pokémon Center on them and heals sick Pokémon. Ash and his friends decide to help Nurse Joy.

EP93 - Bye Bye Psyduck Filler
After stopping on another island to rest, Misty notices her Psyduck's tail is glowing, a nearby trainer says it may mean it is time for it to evolve. So Misty challenges her to battle and when she finds she has a Golduck, she easily beats the trainer. However, Team Rocket has other plans. Later, Golduck turns out to be a wild Pokémon as Misty's Psyduck had only slept in its Pokéball.

EP92 - Stage Fight Filler
After arriving on another island, Ash and his friends discover a showboat which has many talking Pokémon on it. Finding out they do performances, Ash and the gang decide to sit and watch it, but Team Rocket arrives to steal the rare talking Pokémon. This episode was banned but it was dubbed into English. Note: Jynx with Blackface makes an appearance in this episode, so this episode was banned.

EP91 - Shell Shock Filler
After following some boats to an island, Ash and his friends discover an excavation, the whole island is made of fossilized Kabuto, however according to the legend, the Kabuto are said to awaken and unleash destruction on the island.

EP90 - In the Pink Filler
After getting caught in some whirlpools, Ash and his friends get washed up on Pinkan Island, a special Pokémon Reserve which contains Pokémon that are only of the color, pink. However, Team Rocket also get washed up on this island and start causing problems.

EP89 - The Crystal Onix
While out at sea, Ash and his friends find a message in a bottle from Marissa of Sunburst Island asking if anyone knows about an Onix made out of crystal. Curious, they help Marissa and her brother Mateo to find the Crystal Onix and to capture it.

EP88 - Pikachu Re-Volts
Butch and Cassidy attempt to control Pokémon with a large antenna sending out signals from Drowzee. This causes Ash's Pikachu, Misty's Togepi, and all of Jessie and James' Pokémon to turn against their masters because of the effects. They're going to have to team up to save their Pokémon, during which Togepi learns Metronome from Drowzee.

EP87 - Fit to Be Tide
Having caught Lapras, Ash along with Misty and Tracey have embarked on a journey of exploring the Orange Islands as Ash plans to enter the Orange League. The group's first stop is Mikan Island where Ash finds the first Orange League Gym and discovers that the Orange League Gym structure is very different from the one he's used to seeing in his native Kanto.

EP86 - The Lost Lapras
While exploring the island they crash-landed on, Ash and Misty discover a group of teenagers bullying a Lapras. Despite the bullies being driven away, the Lapras which is only a baby is refusing to let any humans near it and the pressure increases when Team Rocket arrive, intending to steal the Lapras, forcing Ash, Misty and their new friend, Tracey, to give chase and save the Lapras before it's too late.

EP85 - Pokéball Peril
Ash and his friends are on Valencia Island searching for Professor Ivy, so they can receive the mysterious GS Ball. They find Professor Ivy's Pokémon Laboratory where the professor shows them the GS Ball. As the ball cannot not be opened or transported, Ash and his friends are tasked with returning the GS ball to Professor Oak for examination. Brock decides to stay on the island with Professor Ivy so that he can learn about Pokémon. Ash and Misty leave without Brock and board a dirigible airship but encounter Team Rocket. In the end, Jigglypuff suddenly appears and sings. Team Rocket and Jigglypuff exit the blimp while the blimp crash lands on Tangelo Island.

EP84 - A Scare in the Air
Heading to the Valencia Island to collect the mysterious GS ball that they still do not know anything about but, to get there will take about 15 days on foot, so Ash buys enough food for fifteen days! Ash takes part in a lottery and wins a blimp ride which would take them there in less than a day. However, the Blimp turns out to be a haunted vehicle controlled by Team Rocket.

EP83 - Pallet Party Panic
Ash celebrates making it to the Kanto League back at Pallet Town. However, Team Rocket steals Pikachu by tricking them with a very spicy meal, but unlucky for them they're defeated by Charizard, but only after Ash's Pidgeotto is poisoned. Later on, Professor Oak asks Ash to go to Valencia Island to bring a mysterious Pokéball, the GS Ball, from Professor Ivy. Ash prepares for his journey to Valencia Island, when they are attacked by a group of Spearow and a very angry Fearow. Ash realizes that the Spearow Ash threw the rock at in the beginning of his quest has since evolved into a Fearow, and soon carries Ash and Pikachu away, where they discover that a flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto are being threatened by the Spearow flock. Ash sends his Pidgeotto to guide them to safety, but is attacked by Fearow. Determined to help Ash, Ash's Pidgeotto evolves into Pidgeot, and accompanies Ash and Pikachu to defeat Fearow. Ash subsequently releases Pidgeot to protect the wild Pidgey and Pidgeotto.

EP82 - Friends to the End
After losing to Ritchie in the fifth round, Ash is moping around, annoyed that he lost. He is convinced by Misty that he should support Ritchie who is now in the quarterfinals. However, when Ritchie loses, they both have to look inside themselves to see if they are good trainers.

EP81 - Friend and Foe Alike
After making a promise with Ritchie that he will have the best battle of his life, Ash is given the choice between letting Team Rocket steal Pikachu or missing his battle with Ritchie. Ash is not about to let Team Rocket make him break the promise he made with Ritchie, so he is able to eventually rescue Pikachu and get to the stadium in time. However, Ash loses in the final stretch of his battle against Ritchie, due to his choice to send out Charizard, willfully knowing that Charizard would let Ritchie move on to the quarterfinals.

EP80 - A Friend in Deed
Ash meets a new trainer named Ritchie, who is eerily similar to Ash, including owning a Pikachu. However, Team Rocket makes another attempt to steal Ash's and Ritchie's Pokémon. Ash and Ritchie prevent Team Rocket from stealing their Pokémon. Ash discovers his next battle is against Ritchie.

EP79 - The Fourth Round Rumble
During the 4th Round, Gary ends up losing to a trainer named Melissa after Gary's Nidoking is defeated by Melissa's Golem. Meanwhile, Ash faces against his toughest opponent yet, a trainer named Jeanette Fisher (カオルコ, ), who uses a Beedrill, a Scyther, and a Bellsprout. After a hard fought battle with Bulbasaur, Pikachu and Muk, the match ends with Ash victorious, and he moves on to the 5th round, becoming one of the final sixteen members of the tournament.

EP78 - Fire and Ice
For the second round Ash battles in the rock arena. Ash's last Pokémon, Squirtle, defeats his foe's last Pokémon; Nidorino, and he, victorious, moves on to Round 3. In the third round, Ash faces a trainer named Pete Pebbleman (セイジ, ) in the ice arena. Both trainers are left with two Pokémon each. Pete uses Cloyster and Arcanine. In the end, Ash is victorious and he moves on to Round 4.

EP77 - Round One: Begin!
Ash enters his first match of the tournament on the water field, pitting his Krabby against Mandi the Astounding (コーム, ). During the battle, Krabby evolves into Kingler, who gives Ash the advantage to win the match and move onto the next preliminary round.

EP76 - All Fired Up!
Ash finally reaches the Indigo Plateau, home of the Pokémon League conference. Before the tournament begins, they plan on lighting a ceremonial cauldron with the flame of the legendary Pokémon, Moltres. Ash, as a participant, is free to carry the flame but when Team Rocket steals it, the tournament may be cancelled.

EP74 - The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis Filler
While training, Ash and his friends accidentally uncover the ruins of Pokémopolis (ポケモニア, ), an ancient city. A giant Gengar and a giant Alakazam who were respectively trapped inside a dark device and a strange urn are awakened. The two start to fight one another when a giant Jigglypuff appears and puts them to sleep.

After watching Elite Four member Bruno on TV, Ash and his friends decide to do training in the mountains to be as strong as Bruno. However, they meet Bruno and he manipulates them to do some menial tasks for him. Meanwhile, a giant Onix is on a rampage.

EP72 - Go West, Young Meowth
Ash, his friends, and Delia go to Hollywood to see the premiere of the movie their Pokémon were cast in. Team Rocket follows them to find out that Meowth has history in this town; It is here where he was a member of a gang of street Meowths led by the Persian. He learned to speak and walk upright to win the heart of a female Meowth who was abandoned by her owner. Upon returning, he challenges Persian who was once his mentor for the female Meowth he thought he lost years before.

EP71 - Lights, Camera, Quack-tion!
Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket audition their Pokémon for the costarring role in a movie with an all-Pokémon cast. Misty's Psyduck wins the part by default when the other competitors are unable to handle the film's star, a prima donna Wigglytuff.

EP70 - Make Room for Gloom Filler
Ash goes to a large greenhouse called the Xanadu Nursery (ムラサメ植物園, , Murasame Botanical Garden) to get some fertilizer for his mother, but Bulbasaur sniffs the flowers and becomes paralyzed.

EP69 - The Pi-Kahuna Filler
Ash and his friends take some time off to go surfing. While surfing, however, Ash passes out, but is thankfully rescued by a surfer named Victor (ビンセント, , Vincent) and his blue-eyed Pikachu, Puka (マイケル, , Michael). Victor then reveals his plans to surf a tsunami called Humungadunga (ビッグ・チューズデー, , Big Tuesday) and become a surfing legend.

EP68 - The Evolution Solution
Ash goes to Seafoam Island to help Professor Oak to discover the mystery of how Slowpoke evolves into Slowbro. There, Professor Westwood V is also trying to solve the mystery. Jessie captures Shellder, and tries to rush a Slowpoke's evolution, forcing Psyduck to stall the evolution.

EP67 - Showdown at the Po-ké Corral
Back in Pallet Town, Ash finds Gary, already there, waiting to partake in the Pokémon League. Always having a bitter rivalry with Gary, Professor Oak tells them both the meaning of Pokémon. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is trying to get inside the lab to steal the Pokémon after their headquarters is destroyed by Mewtwo.

EP66 - Snow Way Out
Ash and his friends are trapped in a snowstorm. Brock suggests that the group uses his Onix to create a bivouac. They are about to start when a strong gust of wind blows Pikachu away, and Ash tries to save him. After saving Pikachu who is about to fall off a cliff, Ash finds himself separated from the rest of the group. He and his other Pokémon must brave out the rest of the storm together in a cave.

EP65 - Holiday Hi-Jynx Filler
Ash, Misty, Brock, and their Pokémon must return a lost Jynx to Santa before Christmas, with the help of a Lapras. Meanwhile, Jessie attempts to take revenge on Santa for stealing her favorite doll when she was young.This episode was banned after being accused by Carole Weatherford of stereotyping African-American women. This caused later episodes to be edited and banned where even a cameo was made by Jynx (e.g. Orange Islands: Stage Fight! and The Mandarin Island Miss Match ). Jynx has now been re-colored to purple, not only in the anime, but also the video games.

EP64 - It's Mr. Mime Time!
Upon heading back to Pallet Town, Ash and his friends see a Mr. Mime trying to escape from a trainer who runs a circus. Unable to get the circus' overweight Mr. Mime to act, Ash and the gang have to find another one to take its place. The gang choose to dress up Ash so he can look like a Mr. Mime. Meanwhile, the Mr. Mime from earlier comes to the Ketchum residence and is mistaken by Mrs. Ketchum for Ash.

EP63 - The Battle of the Badge
Ash goes to the Gym in Viridian City, but Gary gets in there before him and challenges the gym leader for his own satisfaction, as he has already won ten Gym Badges. The gym leader, Team Rocket's commander Giovanni, agrees to the fight, eventually using a never before seen Pokémon (Mewtwo), which the Pokédex cannot identify, to easily defeat Gary. Team Rocket kidnaps and tries to give Togepi to Giovanni, but Giovanni thinks it is useless. Giovanni leaves the Gym with Mewtwo to sort out an emergency and puts Jessie, James, and Meowth in charge. Ash challenges them and wins the battle, but Team Rocket refuses to give Ash the Earth Badge, his eighth and final badge. Togepi sends them blasting off when it plays with the controls, and Team Rocket drops the Earth Badge for Ash to catch.

In Viridian City, Ash and his friends are victims to several thefts by some Clefairy. While investigating with Mr. Oswald (ヒラタ, ), they discover the Clefairy are building a spaceship.

EP61 - The Misty Mermaid
Upon returning to Cerulean City, Misty is asked by her sisters to help out with a new underwater show. She decides to help for this underwater play with her Pokémon, but Team Rocket arrives and try to ruin things. At the end of the episode, Misty leaves her Starmie and Horsea with her sisters to assist in further shows.

EP60 - Beach Blank-Out Blastoise Filler
On their way back to the mainland, Ash accidentally runs into a Wartortle that is trying to help its king Blastoise, a ruler of a small island that will not awake from its slumber. Squirtle dons his old persona as head of the Squirtle Squad to solve the case. It turns out Jigglypuff is stuck in one of Blastoise's blasters, singing it's lullaby, which has caused the Blastoise to fall asleep.

EP59 - Volcanic Panic
Pikachu successfully dodges Magmar's Fire Blast but is left hanging over the edge and is left injured. Upon realizing that no Gym Badge is worth losing Pikachu and that he would be disqualified if he continues, Ash forfeits the match but vows not to leave Cinnabar Island until he has beaten both Blaine and Magmar in a rematch and won the Volcano Badge. But when the Gym and island come under threat after Team Rocket's interference, Ash, Ash's friends, and Blaine's Pokémon work together and eventually triumph in preventing the volcano from blowing which would destroy the island. As thanks, Blaine agrees to have a rematch with Ash. Ash's Charizard decides to battle Magmar in a one-on-one match to the surprise of Ash and his friends. After an intense battle where Ash looks set to lose, Charizard manages to turn things around by using its Seismic Toss which results in Magmar being knocked out and finally granting Ash his Volcano Badge.

EP58 - Riddle Me This
After reaching Cinnabar Island, Ash, Brock, and Misty are dismayed to find that the Gym has closed due to crowds of tourists coming to the island and lack of serious trainers. Desperate for his seventh badge, Ash goes around and meets a riddle master who gives him clues about the real Gym's secret location. After finding the Gym in the island's volcano, the riddle master appears and reveals that he is actually Blaine, the gym leader Ash has been searching for. Ash begins his battle against Blaine with his first Pokémon, Squirtle who loses to Blaine's Ninetales and Charizard simply refusing to battle Blaine's Rhydon. Eventually, Pikachu wins against Rhydon but Blaine has a secret weapon up his sleeve in the form of the Fire Pokémon, Magmar. With Pikachu's electric attacks rendered useless, Magmar pushes Pikachu closer and closer to the edge of the battlefield. The episode ends in a cliffhanger as it shows Pikachu standing, determined as Magmar's Fire Blast, the most powerful attack that Fire Pokémon have edges ever closer to the Electric Mouse.

EP57 - The Breeding Center Secret
After putting Psyduck in a breeding center, Misty learns that she needs it to get some food from a generous chef. But when she goes to get it, Ash and the gang discover a diabolical plot by two other Team Rocket members, Cassidy and Butch, who are trying to steal Pokémon, and in doing so, Ash and his friends get framed by Cassidy and Butch.

EP56 - The Ultimate Test
While traveling, Ash notes it has been a long time since his last Badge, so Todd suggests he takes the Pokémon League exam. Passing the exam would get him an immediate entry into the competition. But Ash, being over confident of himself of passing the exam, fails in the first and second tests. In the third test, Team Rocket interferes the match and uses their given Pokémon to take revenge on the examiner for giving them a hard time on the first and second tests. In the end, the examiner commands their given Pokémon to attack Team Rocket instead of himself, which sends them blasting off again.

EP55 - Pokémon Paparazzi
While eating Brock's riceballs, Ash hears a shutter which he thinks is a gun. It's really a camera belonging to a photographer named Todd Snap (トオル, ), who was hired by Team Rocket to capture Pikachu, but he thinks they want him to capture a picture of him. After the confusion, Todd joins the group.

EP54 - The Case of the K-9 Caper! Filler
When Ash and his friends see a group of Growlithe training against a policeman posing as a robber, Ash decides for him and Pikachu to do the same training to become the best they can be. However, when Team Rocket comes to steal the Growlithe, Officer Jenny's voice gets changed, causing the Growlithe to think that Team Rocket are the Officers as they use their ears to follow command.

EP53 - The Purr-fect Hero
Ash and his friends arrive at a small school on Kids' Day and let the children play with their Pokémon. One of the children, named Timmy (マナブ, ), only wants to meet Meowth after being saved by a wild one from a Beedrill. Team Rocket's Meowth pretends to be his hero, but is soon caught by Misty. Later, Timmy is saved again by the wild Meowth.

EP52 - Princess vs. Princess
It is the Queen of the Princess Festival and Misty and Jessie are going all out for it. After hours of shopping, they both decide to enter the Queen of the Princess Festival Battle Tournament to win the dolls they both coveted when they were children.

EP51 - Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden
When Ash's Bulbasaur gets injured in a battle, it starts to feel and act different. Ash takes Bulbasaur to a Pokémon Center and is informed that Bulbasaur is just ready to evolve, coinciding with an evolution festival where Bulbasaur from around the region evolve into Ivysaur in the Mysterious Garden. Ash's Bulbasaur gets kidnapped by a group of Bulbasaur and taken to the festival against its will, but Bulbasaur refuses to evolve. When Team Rocket tries to kidnap the wild Ivysaur and their leader Venusaur, Bulbasaur masters Solar Beam to rescue the group.

EP50 - Who Gets to Keep Togepi?
When the egg Ash found hatches into a brand new Pokémon, Togepi, everyone wants to own it. They decide to have a small Pokémon Tournament. Ash, who found it, claims he should be the one to keep it. In the end, Ash wins the tournament, but since Misty was the first person Togepi saw when he hatched, he thinks she is his mother and stays with her.

EP49 - So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd
When Misty's Poké Balls are stolen by a Farfetch'd, Ash and the gang investigate to try to find the thief and get all the stolen things back.

EP48 - Holy Matrimony!
After finding a missing person sign featuring James, Ash and his friends decide to find James and inform him of his parents' death. However James' parents turn out to be alive, and their death was only a decoy to get him to return home to the rich Jessie-look-alike Jessebelle (ルミカ, ), a girl James was arranged to marry from when he was a little child. James has left because Jessebelle is terrifying, so everyone tries to save James from this fate, including James' old pet Growlithe.

EP47 - A Chansey Operation Filler
After Pikachu gets an apple stuck in its throat, Ash and his friends rush to a Pokémon Center, but learn that due to a traffic accident (caused by Team Rocket) that has left many Pokémon injured, they have to ask an ordinary doctor to help.

EP46 - Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon
Arriving at a canyon to find an old fashioned fossil hunt, Ash, Gary and the gang decide to join in. But Team Rocket arrives and intends to blow the canyon up. Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket fall into a pit which is full of awakened ancient Pokémon. Their only hope rests in Ash's disobedient Charmeleon, which evolves into a powerful, yet still disobedient Charizard to defeat a raging Aerodactyl. In the end, the ancient Pokémon are sealed away once more (along with a terrified Team Rocket) and Officer Jenny dismisses the entire event as a side effect caused by Jigglypuff's singing. Ash, however, finds a rare Pokémon egg in the chaos and keeps it.

EP45 - The Song of Jigglypuff
Ash and his friends find a Jigglypuff in the forest who is too shy to sing its hypnotic song. Brock gives Jigglypuff a fruit that heals its throat to make it able to sing, but Ash, his friends and Team Rocket fall asleep to the song, angering Jigglypuff. Team Rocket tricks Ash and his friends into giving Jigglypuff a stage to perform its song for an audience in Neon Town, whose inhabitants Team Rocket intends to steal from. Everyone falls asleep, including Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket, and a miffed Jigglypuff uses the marker hidden in its microphone to draw on everyone's sleeping faces. From this point on, Jigglypuff follows Ash around trying to sing its song to a crowd that will not fall asleep in almost every episode.

EP44 - The Problem with Paras
Having run out of medicine, Ash and his friends go to a shop in Mossgreen Village to get some healing potions. The shop's owner Cassandra (キヨミ, ) wants her weak Paras to evolve into a Parasect so she can use Parasect's mushroom for a new kind of miracle potion. Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket all decide to help out Cassandra by training her Paras, hoping that it can evolve into Parasect. However, everything gets complicated because Ash's Charmeleon begins to disobey him! After facing it's fears, Paras finally evolves after beating Charmeleon in battle.

EP43 - The March of the Exeggutor Squad
When at a carnival, Ash and his friends meet Melvin (マギー, , McGee), a magician who is really losing his touch and fails in his own magic show. In his effort to get better, Melvin decides to hypnotize Ash and uses his Pokémon Exeggcute to capture loads of Exeggutor. The Exeggutor end up hypnotizing themselves and Team Rocket and almost destroy the entire carnival. The carnival owner sets a time bomb to stop the Exeggutor. Ash's Charmander uses flame attacks and Melvin successfully performs his fire magic trick to wake up the Exeggutor before they get harmed by the time bomb. After this Charmander unexpectedly evolves into Charmeleon.

Upon entering Dark City, Ash and his friends discover that Pokémon Trainers aren't welcome due to two rival Gyms who involve Ash and his friends as well as Team Rocket in their feuds to become the city's legitimate Pokémon Gym.

Ash and his friends arrive at a town having problems with their water source. It seems that a Snorlax is blocking the water path. Team Rocket plans to capture the Snorlax, but Ash and his friends find help from an unexpected source.

EP40 - The Battling Eevee Brothers
While traveling through the woods, the group encounters an Eevee that was apparently abandoned near a tree. They take it to its address in Stone Town and find it belongs to a little boy named Mikey (タイチ, ). His three brothers are pressuring him into evolving his Eevee into one of three forms—Jolteon, Vaporeon, or Flareon—at an Evolution Party, where everyone uses Evolution Stones to evolve their Pokémon. However, the Evolution Party is disrupted by Team Rocket, and Mikey manages to use Eevee on its own to show his brothers that he does not need to evolve his beloved Eevee.

EP39 - Pikachu's Goodbye
The group come into a forest where it is quiet and peaceful. They notice a large group of Pikachu that Ash's Pikachu tries to make friends with. After saving a young Pikachu from drowning and rescuing the herd from Team Rocket, Ash's Pikachu is welcomed among the other Pikachu as one of their own. Saddened by this sudden distance, Ash tries to leave Pikachu behind (to Misty and Brock's shock and dismay), thinking that in the long run, it is going to be better off with its own kind. As they attempt to leave the forest with Ash still standing his ground on leaving Pikachu, the three friends are surprised when Pikachu returns to them, flanked by the other wild Pikachu including the younger Pikachu it risked its life to save earlier. The episode ends with Ash and Pikachu having an emotional reunion and hugging one another while the rest of the wild Pikachu cheer for the two of them as Brock and Misty look on.

EP38 - Cyber Soldier Porygon Filler
Ash and his friends arrive at Pokémon Center where the Poké Ball transfer machine has been causing problems, as the transferred Pokémon never end up at the other side. Ash and his friends decide to accompany Porygon, a computerized Pokémon, used by Professor Akihabara (秋葉原博士, ) to investigate the problem, only to discover that Team Rocket and another Porygon are to blame.This episode was controversial due to a scene with red and blue strobe lights causing a wave of seizures on viewers. The episode has since been removed from rotation worldwide.

EP37 - Ditto's Mysterious Mansion Filler
During a storm, Ash and his friends arrive at a mysterious mansion. While there, Ash meets Duplica (イミテ, ), a girl who is an expert at impersonation, and she happens to own Ditto, a Pokémon that can transform into any Pokémon. However, Ditto cannot seem to figure out how to change its face, a fact that stopped Duplica's variety show. As they all try to help Ditto perfect its transformation, Team Rocket tries to steal the Ditto so it can transform into a Dratini which they can give to the boss.

EP36 - The Bridge Bike Gang
Continuing their journey, the group came across a bridge which could be used as a shortcut to the next town. They soon discover that the bridge is too long to walk and they would need bicycles to cross. They go to the Pokémon Center where Nurse Joy asks them to take some medicine to a sick Pokémon across the bridge. On their way, a bicycle gang appears to cause trouble and Team Rocket is helping them. When Ash and his friends decide to cross the bridge during a storm, the bicyclists realize that they are acting selflessly, and help them.

EP35 - The Legend of Dratini
Ash and his friends get challenged by Team Rocket in seeing who can capture the most Pokémon within the Safari Zone, with Ash catching a whole herd of Tauros. As soon as Ash and his friends head out Pokémon hunting, Team Rocket manages to get the drop on the game warden, Kaizer (カイザー, ), and forces him into giving up the location on where Dratini is (Dragon Valley). In the end, Ash, his friends, Team Rocket, and Kaiza end up seeing the legendary Dratini and Dragonair, with the heroes saving the day.This episode was not dubbed into English, due to scenes involving guns being pointed at one another. However, the exclusion resulted in continuity errors.

EP34 - The Kangaskhan Kid Filler
Ash and his friends arrive at the Safari Zone, unaware that the part they have entered is a protected preserve when an Officer Jenny disguised as Chansey nearly arrests them for poaching. They come across a wild boy named Tomo (ターサン, ) who leads a herd of Kangaskhan, and eventually find the boy's parents, who were searching for him since he was only three, and learn that his real name is Tommy (タロウ, ). Unfortunately, Tommy thinks that the Kangaskhan are his family. After battling Team Rocket, Tommy's parents also become part of the Kangaskhan family.

EP33 - The Flame Pokémon-athon!
The group arrive at the Laramie Ranch where a family of ranchers, with their daughter, Lara (フウコ, ) and her Ponyta, prepares for an annual Pokémon race. Ash takes over as Ponyta's rider when Lara gets her arm injured due to Team Rocket's interference. Then, Team Rocket helps a rival competitor called Dario to win the race by setting up traps for other participants. As the race continues, however, Ponyta evolves into Rapidash and wins the race.

EP32 - The Ninja-Poké Showdown
Fuchsia Gym, the authorized gym where Ash seeks his next badge, turns out to be a hidden ninja's lair. After finally discovering and entering the gym, he is held up by a complex system of traps. At last, the gym's eccentric trainer challenges Ash to a match. Just as he defeats the trainer, the official battle with the Master begins. The battle goes out of control as Team Rocket also enters the gym and its vast array of traps. Can Ash actually earn the gym badge?

EP31 - Dig Those Diglett!
Ash, Brock, Misty and Pikachu are lost deep in the mountains. As they press forward on a rough road not even shown on their map, they suddenly hear a large explosion. Running toward the sound in surprise, the party emerges on a construction site where tractors are building a tremendous dam. Ash learns that the foreman is trying to recruit skilled Pokémon trainers because earth Pokémon, Diglett, are interfering with construction and delaying the completion of his work. The foreman has been recruiting Pokémon trainers to get rid of the Diglett. He will award free passes for travel to a luxurious natural hot springs to anyone who can accomplish this. As Ash scopes out the recruits, he notices a familiar enemy in the mix, Gary.

EP30 - Sparks Fly for Magnemite
As our heroes make their way through the industrial town of Gringy City, Pikachu, perhaps weary from travel, is in a strange state; the electric sacks on his cheeks are continually twitching as though overcharged. At the town's Pokémon Center, Joy diagnoses Pikachu as being in the first stages of a Pokémon cold. She begins treatment immediately, but the town suddenly goes into a blackout. Assuming the problem to be in the power-generating station near the beach, Ash and friends go to investigate. There they discover the Pokémon, Magnemite and a pack of Grimer—Pokémon created from sludge. What exactly is going on?

EP29 - The Punchy Pokémon
In the outskirts of Fuchsia City, our heroes come across Hitmonchan, a fighter-Pokémon. With little thought, Ash attempts to capture it, but he and Pikachu are badly defeated. Hitmonchan's master has abandoned his family, training day and night, aiming for victory at the P1 Grand Prix (the number one Pokémon Grand Prix). His daughter tells Ash and his friends of her desire to make her father remember his family. In the meantime, Ash's party enters the P1 Grand Prix, but with Team Rockets unwanted, not to mention, unofficial presence at the competition, the battle goes out of control.

EP28 - Pokémon Fashion Flash
At Brock's persistent request, our heroes stop by Caesar Street, a town of breeders famous for its Pokémon beauty salons. Brock makes a special request to visit a salon called Coron. The owner of the Beauty Salon, Coron, is a breeder who has received the most superior ranking in the Pokémon Breeder Contest for three years straight. Recently, a store called Salon Roquet has been introducing outrageous fashions, making wild profits and disrupting long-term shop-owners.

EP27 - Hypno's Naptime
Our heroes come to a town in which a great deal of children have recently turned up missing. Working together with Jenny to search for these children, they begin an investigation at the Pokémon Center, inquiring into the disappearances, but Joy has other concerns. For some reason, the Pokémon in the Center aren't getting well at all. Jenny reveals that a mysterious sleep wave has been passing in and out of the town for several days. Our heroes suspect a connection between the missing children and the Pokémon's poor condition. Team Rocket begins a sinister search of their own for the source of these strange occurrences. What could be the cause of this sleep wave?

EP26 - Pokémon Scent-sation!
The party arrives in Celadon City, a perfectly pleasant town full of large department stores, condominiums, and fancy arcades. Brock and Misty are mesmerized, listening to a pretty young girl in a miniskirt, selling perfume. Appalled by the price of the perfume, Ash is kicked out of the department store, and heads for the Pokémon gym alone, but he is denied entrance to the Celadon Gym. The perfume that Ash criticized in the department store is produced in this gym. Brock and Misty enter the gym and befriend those who inhabit it, but Ash must go to some outrageous lengths in order to even set foot in the gym let alone prove himself worthy of battle against its Master.

On their way to Celadon City, our heroes encounter Mankey, a wild Pokémon that if rubbed the wrong way can go into uncontrollable fits. Not realizing its unpredictability, the party accidentally upsets Mankey. To make matters worse, Team Rocket arrives and an all out war is waged by Mankey, who evolves into a ferocious Primeape, against anyone in its path. Will Ash be able to add Mankey/Primeape to his ever growing collection of Pokémon without having to withstand Primeape's unrelenting wrath?

EP24 - Haunter vs. Kadabra (Part 3)
Unbeknownst to Ash, one of the ghost Pokémon decides to join Ash and friends on their journey and more importantly help Ash battle the powerful Saffron City Gym Leader. Ash returns to Saffron City with one goal, to win a gold badge. The scene is set and Ash and the young girl are once again face to face when suddenly, Ash's ghost Pokémon is nowhere to be found. Feeling completely humiliated, Ash leaves the gym. Brock and Misty are left behind and as a result, the young girl uses her powers to turn them into miniature dolls, rendering them helpless. The mysterious man from Ash's previous encounter with this baffling Gym Leader shows up providing Ash with some information that could ultimately be the key to defeating her. Determined to rescue Brock and Misty, Ash returns to the Saffron City Gym ready to do what it takes to win and save his friends. Just when his attempt seems hopeless, the ghost Pokémon shows up with a unique combative technique. Will this be enough to rescue Ash's friends as well as the young Gym Leader from her dark and lonely world?

EP23 - The Tower of Terror (Part 2)
Ash realizes that he must battle and collect a ghost Pokémon in order to defeat the young girl's psychic Pokémon. In search of a ghost Pokémon, he heads immediately for a tower in Lavender Town where they are said to dwell. Jessie, James and Meowth from Team Rocket are already at the tower, but as they lay in wait for our heroes, they are attacked by Gastly, Haunter and Gangar. In the process of trying to defeat the ghost Pokémon, Ash learns a lesson or two about the mystical spirit world. Can Ash capture a ghost Pokémon and if so, will it be enough to defeat the psychic Gym Leader of Saffron City?

EP22 - Abra and the Psychic Showdown (Part 1)
The party finally arrives in Saffron City where a young girl manages a gym of Pokémon using her psychic powers. If Ash defeats this particular Gym Leader, Ash can earn a gold badge. Gathering all their strength, Ash and Pikachu challenge her. She happily accepts, but adds the strange condition that if Ash loses, they must become her friend. The official gym battle begins, but Pikachu is helpless against the young girl's Pokémon, Abra. To make matters worse, Abra evolves in the middle of the match, turning into the more powerful, Kadabra. Employing even stronger psychic powers against Pikachu, Saffron City's Gym Leader defeats Ash. As this strange story unravels, Ash encounters a mysterious man who seems to be the key to solving the puzzle to this young girl's disturbing power.

EP21 - Bye Bye Butterfree
As they journey toward Saffron City, our heroes come to a path that continues along the side of a sheer cliff. When the party sees a flock of Butterfree flying above the ocean, Brock, as a Pokémon breeder, explains that it is the Butterfree's egg-laying season. In order to continue their posterity, Butterfree find mates during this season and cross the sea together. Ash releases his Butterfree, sending it off toward the flock. His Butterfree performs a dance to attract a pink Butterfree, but is brutally rejected. Ash, Misty and Brock try to encourage Butterfree, but Butterfree can't recover from the shock of rejection. Just then Team Rocket arrives to poach the Butterfree. Ash's Butterfree tries to prevent the capture of his fellow Pokémon with very little success. Determined to free them and win the heart of the pink Butterfree, he battles Team Rocket with the strength and courage of a Pokémon in love. Can Ash's Butterfree rescue his fellow Butterfree Pokémon and win the heart of his pink Butterfree? If so, will he leave Ash, his beloved Pokémon trainer, to follow his love and fulfill the Butterfree destiny?

EP20 - The Ghost of Maiden's Peak Filler
After leaving Acapulco in search of Saffron City, our heroes finally arrive at a small port town in the middle of celebrating a summer festival. In order to recover from their hard journey, Ash and his party decide to participate in the festival. Team Rocket's interest in the festivities, on the other hand, is purely monetary. Brock and James are both bewitched by a picture scroll shown in a shrine open only on the day of the summer festival. The picture depicts a beautiful young maiden in a scene from the legend of Maiden Rock—a point on a cape near the town. According to the priest's explanation, the girl in the picture lived 2,000 years ago, and awaited the return of a lover captured in battle, until she finally turned into stone. Every year at this season, the ghost of this girl steals the spirit of a young man and this year it is James' and Brock's turn. What could the ghost possibly be after? And what is its true identity?

EP19 - Tentacool & Tentacruel
Our heroes arrive at Hutber Port, where a ferryboat line runs to the mainland. There they meet a cousin of the old man's competitor from Acapulco who, having recently acquired a great deal of money, is trying to construct a huge luxury hotel, turning a coral reef area into a tremendous resort. This section of coral reef, however, is very important to the Tentacool and Horsea that live there. When a huge school of Tentacool interferes with the construction of the hotel, the cousin and a group of young people organize a campaign to drive them away, offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone who can repel the Tentacool. Naturally this draws the attention of Team Rocket who attempt to get rid of the Tentacool by spreading a mixture of super secret stun sauce over the ocean. Their plan backfires, however, transforming the Tentacool into a gigantic Tentacruel which begins a fierce counterattack against the humans. In order to defeat this reign of terror, Ash, Misty, Brock and their Pokémon are drawn into a battle that will require more than just strong combative skill.

EP18 - Beauty and the Beach
After finally escaping the deserted island, our heroes arrive in Acapulco, the world's greatest resort. They begin their vacation on endless beautiful beaches lined with palm trees. Ash, Misty and Brock go joyriding in a cruiser belonging to an old man and, inadvertently, break it. Our heroes and their Pokémon work temporarily for the old man to pay off their debt. Business is booming, creating resentment from his main competitor. As a result, Team Rocket is employed to interfere. Ash and friends only see this as a temporary set back, and come up with a plan that will blow the old man’s competitor and her co-conspirators, Team Rocket, out of the water. During all of this commotion, Professor Oak and Ash's mother unexpectedly show up to witness Ash defeat his competitors and prove himself to be one step closer to becoming a Pokémon Master.

EP17 - Island of the Giant Pokémon
As our heroes and Team Rocket beat the odds by surviving the sinking ship, they are dragged into another potentially deadly situation when they are attacked by the ferocious Pokémon, Gyarados. One Gyarados becomes many and Ash, friends and foe are swept up in a tornado landing them in various locations on an island. Ash loses Pikachu and the Poké Balls containing Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur. Jessie and James from Team Rocket, who land in another remote part of the island, also lose their Pokémon. Thus both Pokémon and their masters are left searching for each other on this strange island, inhabited by gigantic Pokémon. Where could this island be?

EP16 - Pokémon Shipwreck
Our heroes are revealed in the middle of a trap concocted by Team Rocket. Luckily the Pokémon Trainers are able to pool their Pokémon resources and successfully battle Team Rocket and their evil crew. In the midst of the confusion on board, however, a tumultuous storm wreaks havoc on the cruise forcing everyone except Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu as well as Team Rocket to evacuate the sinking ship. Luckily, Ash was able to exchange Butterfree for Raticate before the ship went down, but now our heroes are forced to team up with their long-standing enemies in order to survive their life or death predicament.

EP15 - Battle Aboard the St. Anne
Ash and his friends board a fancy cruise ship called the St. Anne, thanks to tickets provided by two friendly but familiar-looking people. We soon learn that they're actually Jessie and James in disguise, and their latest plan is to lure Pokémon Trainers onto the ship and steal their Pokémon!While onboard, Ash observes a Raticate defeating a Starmie. Ash challenges the Raticate with his Butterfree. Though the Raticate's owner removes his Pokémon before the battle ends, he's impressed with Ash's Butterfree and offers a trade. Ash trades his Butterfree for the Raticate, but soon regrets his decision. Meanwhile, James is tricked into buying a Magikarp.While all the Trainers are gathered in a room, the ship's employees reveal themselves to be members of Team Rocket! As they suck up Poké Balls with vacuum-like devices, the Trainers fight back; their Pokémon team up to multiply their attacks and drive back the bad guys.During all the commotion, a tumultuous storm brews outside. Eventually, the ship rocks violently, and the consensus is to abandon ship. Only Jessie, James, Meowth, and Ash and his friends are unable to flee, as they are knocked unconscious by the jerking movements of the ship—then the ship flips over and sinks!What will become of our heroes? Will they have to join forces with Team Rocket to escape? And how successful could such a partnership be?

EP14 - Electric Shock Showdown
Our heroes finally reach Vermillion City, and they discover that the Pokémon Center is filled with Pokémon hurt during battles with Lt. Surge, the Vermillion City Gym Leader.Ash and Pikachu head to the Vermillion City Gym, where Lt. Surge is proud of his Raichu. (Lt. Surge's attitude is to evolve Pokémon as soon as possible.) The two Electric-type Pokémon battle, and Raichu, being the evolved form of Pikachu, delivers stronger attacks that send Pikachu to the hospital. Even Team Rocket, spying the scene from outside, is disappointed.Nurse Joy offers Ash a Thunderstone, which is required for a Pikachu to evolve. As a Raichu, Pikachu would have a better chance of defeating Lt. Surge's Raichu, but if it evolves, it can never go back to being a Pikachu.What will Pikachu decide? Are there disadvantages to evolving Pokémon as soon as possible? And why is Team Rocket rooting for Pikachu?

EP13 - Mystery at the Lighthouse
The party emerges from the forest onto a beach, where in the distance they see a lighthouse, shining at the top of a cliff. The lighthouse belongs to Bill, a Pokémon researcher who is awaiting the coming of a one-of-a-kind Pokémon, never before seen by humans. Before long, a tremendously large shadow begins to take form in the sea mists, but this possible discovery could be hindered due to the infamous Team Rocket lurking in the background cooking up another one of their schemes. Could such a legendary Pokémon truly exist?

EP12 - Here Comes the Squirtle Squad
Ash and his friends walk along a path and fall into a hole dug by a batch of mischievous Squirtle. Ash climbs out and tries to battle them, but they scatter when Officer Jenny arrives.Team Rocket tries to enjoy a picnic, but the Squirtle Squad (as Officer Jenny calls them) shows up, traps them (then ties them to a tree), and eats their food. Meowth makes a deal with the Squirtle to secure its release.With Meowth in charge, the Squirtle are able to capture Ash, Misty, Brock, and a wounded Pikachu. They tie up the humans in a cave while Pikachu, its health fading, lies in a cage. Ash convinces the Squirtle to let him go to town to get a Super Potion for Pikachu, while Meowth awaits Jessie and James to arrive so they can complete their plan.Will Ash retrieve Pikachu's medicine in time? What is this sinister Team Rocket plot? And what's the real story behind the Squirtle Squad?

EP11 - Charmander – The Stray Pokémon
Our friends, lost, discover an injured Charmander. Pikachu talks to it and learns that it's been waiting a long time for its trainer to return.Later, at a Pokémon Center, we overhear a Trainer bragging about abandoning his Charmander. Brock and Ash confront the trainer, named Damien, who challenges them to a battle. Nurse Joy breaks things up and reminds everyone that Pokémon are not to be used for settle personal disputes.Ash, Misty, and Brock rush to retrieve the Charmander. It's not only threatened by a driving rain that could extinguish its flame, it's also under attack by a flock of Pidgeotto! Fortunately, Pikachu is able to make the Pidgeotto scatter so the Charmander could be saved.They return to the Pokémon Center, where Nurse Joy says the Charmander requires an overnight stay.When our friends wake up the next morning, however, the Charmander is gone!Is the Charmander still loyal to the neglectful Damien? Will Damien ever learn that a Trainer must be responsible for his Pokémon? And will Team Rocket's latest trap finally succeed?

EP10 - Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village
Ash and Misty, while arguing, discover an Oddish. As Misty's Starmie weakens the Oddish, a Bulbasaur appears and fights Starmie while the Oddish runs off into the woods. Ash jumps in with his Butterfree, but the Bulbasaur is able to escape in the direction of the Oddish.Our heroes cross a river over a rope bridge that snaps, sending Brock into the river below. As Misty, Ash, and Pikachu hunt for Brock, they set off a couple of traps, finally landing in a net that hangs from a tree!Fortunately, Brock shows up to cut them down, then brings them to meet a woman named Melanie, who takes care of wounded Pokémon like the Oddish—and sets traps to defend the Pokémon from poachers. The Bulbasaur, we learn, acts as a kind of bodyguard.Misty apologizes to the Oddish for attacking it earlier, but the Bulbasaur is still hostile because it dislikes Trainers. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has discovered the area and plans to snatch the weak Pokémon.Will Team Rocket have an advantage against Pokémon that are wounded and unable to defend themselves? And will that Bulbasaur ever warm up to Ash and his friends?

EP9 - The School of Hard Knocks
While searching for firewood in the foggy woods, Ash and Pikachu discover a bunch of prep-school kids bullying a classmate named Joe. They're all students at Pokémon Technical Institute, which offers classes that allow trainers to enter the Pokémon League without getting badges.But Joe says the rough treatment is necessary so he'll be strong enough to graduate. Still, Ash doesn't like the idea, and demands to meet the person responsible for this tutoring program.We soon meet this leader, a conceited girl named Giselle. Brock and Ash are smitten by her looks, but Misty wants to battle. To Misty's surprise, Giselle's Rock-type Graveler defeats her Water-type Starmie, proving that matching up types is only one of several factors that determine victory. As Giselle gloats, Ash challengers her, and Pikachu faces her Cubone.But Cubone is unaffected by Electric-type attacks—how can Pikachu win? What's the real deal with this school? And why does the school seem so familiar to Jessie and James?

EP8 - The Path to the Pokémon League Filler
On the way to Vermillion City, Ash meets AJ, a Gym Leader at an unsanctioned Gym who has 98 wins and zero losses. They battle, and Ash is surprised that AJ's Ground-type Sandshrew can easily beat his Flying-type Pokémon. (Flying-type Pokémon are usually strong against Ground-type Pokémon.)Ash and his friends later see that AJ puts his Pokémon through very tough training—he makes his Sandshrew, normally weak to Water-type attacks, train in a swimming pool! Although Ash doesn't approve of the intensive training session, Brock is impressed. Ash begs for a rematch, but AJ refuses. The two argue a bit and when they fall into the pool, AJ's Sandshrew goes missing.Are AJ's training methods too tough? Will Ash get his rematch? And what happened to AJ's Sandshrew?

EP7 - The Water Flowers of Cerulean City
Ash seeks the Cascade badge in Cerulean City—but for some reason, Misty doesn't want to join them. When Ash and Brock show up, the city is buzzing about a break-in that just took place—and are initially accused of the crime! (We see Team Rocket commit the robbery, but no one else knows about their involvement yet.)Ash and Pikachu arrive at the Cerulean City gym, which resembles an aquarium with an Olympic-sized swimming pool. They see a water show performed by the Sensational Cerulean City Synchronized Swimming Sisters. Later on, Ash learns that the sisters are actually the Gym Leaders. Seymour leads Ash and his friends into a cave to find the legendary Moon Stone, which is said to increase the power of Pokémon.Deep in the cave, Ash spots a Clefairy carrying a Moon Stone. He considers capturing it, but Seymour tells him Clefairy prefer to live at Mount Moon. Ash decides to leave the Clefairy in peace, but Team Rocket shows up with plans of their own!Will Team Rocket steal the Moon Stone? Are there other Clefairy lurking about, and do they carry Moon Stones, too? And is the legend of the Moon Stone true?

EP5 - Showdown in Pewter City
Jessie, James, and Meowth dig a trap for our heroes, but they end up falling into it themselves!Ash and Misty arrive at Pewter City and meet a curious fellow named Flint, who notices that Pikachu is tired and shows them the way to the Pokemon Center.At the Pokemon Center, Ash reads a poster promoting the Pokemon League Regional Championships—to compete, you have to beat gym leaders from various towns and win their badges. Ash challenges the Pewter City Gym Leader, Brock, but even a healed Pikachu has no chance against Brock's Rock-type Pokemon. Later, Flint shows Ash a surprising side of Brock—when he's not battling and raising Pokemon, he has to take care of his ten brothers and sisters.Will this news affect Ash's desire to battle Brock again for the Rock Badge? Who is this Flint guy, and why does he insist on helping Ash train Pikachu for the rematch? And will Team Rocket ever climb out of that hole?

EP4 - Challenge of the Samurai
Misty and Ash continue to wander the Viridian Forest when they spot a Weedle. As Ash battles it, he's distracted by a boy dressed as a samurai and calling himself (naturally) Samurai. Samurai challenges Ash to a battle, and Ash gets the advantage when his Metapod defends itself against Samurai's Pinsir. Samurai sends out his own Metapod—and a standoff begins.A swarm of Beedrill interrupts the battle. Ash flees, but leaves his Metapod behind. The Beedrill grab Metapod and take it back to their hive. As Ash sneaks toward the hive to save Metapod, Jessie, James, and Meowth shows up to cause trouble. Ash is able to duck the angry Beedrill, and they instead focus their wrath on Team Rocket.Metapod is mad at Ash for being abandoned. Has Ash learned his lesson about leaving his friends behind? Will Metapod evolve again? And will Samurai and Ash ever resume their battle?

EP3 - Ash Catches a Pokemon
Ash discovers and catches a Caterpie—his first Pokemon capture! Though Ash is excited, Misty is grossed out by Bug-type Pokemon, so she is repulsed by its attempts to be friends with her. At night, as Ash and Misty sleep, Caterpie shares with Pikachu its dream of evolving into a Butterfree.The next day, Ash is able to capture a Pidgeotto after battling it with Pikachu. Before Ash can celebrate too wildly, Misty reminds him that his success is due more to luck than skill.Team Rocket shows up to steal Pikachu—they realize that there's really something special about this Pokemon—and Ash vows to defend himself. Pikachu and Pidgeotto are weakened by Koffing and Ekans, so he reluctantly sends out Caterpie. To the surprise of Jessie and James—not to mention Ash—Caterpie's String Shot is able to defeat the Team Rocket Pokemon, including Meowth!When Misty tries to make nice with Caterpie, it evolves into a Metapod. Could a Butterfree Evolution be far behind?

EP2 - Pokemon Emergency!
Ash rushes into Viridian City with his gravely wounded Pikachu. The city's on high alert for Pokemon thieves-thieves like Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket, a group of bad guys dedicated to stealing valuable Pokemon.While Ash waits at the Pokemon Center for news on Pikachu's condition, Misty arrives, angry about the bike Ash wrecked-but she softens when she sees Pikachu wheeled out on a stretcher.Team Rocket crashes through the roof of the Pokemon Center. While Nurse Joy transports Poke Balls to Pewter City for safety, Ash tries to fight off Team Rocket's Pokemon, Koffing and Ekans. Ash is having no luck battling, so his Pikachu, still recovering, teams up with a bunch of other Pikachu at the Pokemon Center to blast Team Rocket out of the building!Having discovered that Ash's Pikachu is not your ordinary Pikachu, Jessie, James, and Meowth make it their mission to capture it.With the bad guys expelled, Misty joins Ash and Pikachu on their journey to Pewter City. While strolling through Viridian Forest, a Caterpie makes an appearance. Ash sees an opportunity for his first Pokemon capture. Will he be successful?

By the time he arrives at Professor Oak's, the three Pokemon he wanted have already been chosen by the other Trainers-in-training, including his rival, Gary! The only Pokemon remaining is a strong-willed Pikachu.Trainer and Pokemon don't get along right away. Not only does Pikachu refuse to enter its Poke Ball, it would rather climb a tree than battle a Pidgey that Ash encounters! Disagreements aside, they start to bond when they find themselves chased by an angry flock of Spearow. The Spearow wound Pikachu, but Ash risks his own safety to protect his Pokemon.To further their escape, Ash borrows a bike owned by a young girl named Misty. He soon wrecks the bike, however, and he and Pikachu are surrounded by the Spearow. When Ash fearlessly confronts the Spearow, Pikachu is inspired to summon its remaining energy to repel the Pokemon with a powerful electric shock.Finally out of harm's way, the wild experience makes Ash and Pikachu realize that they've begun what promises to be a blooming friendship.
