Soul Buster
The anime is based on the classical Chinese novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and is set in present-day China, where famous figures from history and the novel can be summoned using cards.
The story centers on Son Shin, a high school student who hates studying China's Warring States period, and Shuu Yu, a female general from the Chinese state of Wu who has been revived in the present day.

EP1 - Soul Buster
Sonshin is a young high school boy in China who finds himself caught up in an ancient battle between the forces attempting to revive the emperor Kentei and who would stop them. A mysterious benefactor gives him a choice of cards, which will allow him to summon warriors from the romance of the three kingdoms to do his bidding. He summons the great general Shuuyu, but very quickly finds out that the game is more deadly than he bargained for...

Chou-sensei continues to pursue Shuuyu and Sonshin throughout the school. Sonshin lacks the spiritual power needed to fully use Shuuyu's abilities, so he has no choice but to flee. The situation grows even more dire when the two of them are trapped on the roof, and Gien destroys the fire escapes, leaving them nowhere to run...

But the head thug is tougher than the others, and he's strong enough to even fight Ryouun's general!

Ryouun and Sonshin proceed to the Southern Palace, which is located in a lake at the back of a bamboo forest. But Hakuanshin's plots run deeper than they suspected, and a second assassin awaits. When Ryouun is badly wounded, her general goes off to duel the assassin...

Sonshin finally takes the badly wounded Shuuyu to the southern palace, where Ryouun's grandfather agrees to treat her. But in other to cure her from the poison that consumes her energy, he'll have to go deep inside his mind, where the bond between Lord and General will be tested.

After the loss of her last General, Ryouun wants power, and a lot of it. She turns to the enshrined warrior of the southern palace, the legendary war god Kanu. But will she be able to master his incredible might, or will he drain her of her own power and drive her to her death?

A massive rock blocks the way out of the Southern Palace. Only by combining the powers of General and Lord can Ryouun and Sonshin hope to move it. Hakuanshin waits outside for the palace to collapse, because when it does he will get the last bit of Kanu's card. Can they escape the collapsing palace in time? And if they do, what will be their next destination?
