Hakyuu Houshin Engi

The story is set in legendary China.

A beautiful female fox spirit named Dakki is controlling the emperor Chu-o and the ruling In dynasty, and is using her power over him to do evil in the nation.

An immortal-in-training named Taikobo is chosen by the great immortal sages for the Houshin Project - to seal away or destroy the evil demons that infest the world.

In the course of his adventures, Taikobo gathers other powerful companions and sets out to seal away the demons and eventually destroy the fox-spirit Dakki.

      • EP1 - The Hoshin List

        In the 11th century BC, during the era of Yin... An evil Sennyo, Dakki, has turned the emperor, Chu, into her puppet. To end the chaos in the human world, one of the founding Sennto on Konron Mountain, Genshitenson, summons a Doshi called Taikobo and charges him with the Hoshin List. He orders Taikobo to seal all the evil Sennin listed on it within Hoshindai. His weapons will be his own intellect, the paopei Dashinben, and the spirit beast Supushan. Having received his orders to take out Dakki, the Doshi Taikobo descends to the human world!

      • EP2 - Nataku

        Taikobo is made aware of his own powerlessness in the face of Dakki's schemes. He had made up his mind to recruit some strong allies... but spends his days mindlessly fishing instead. Meanwhile, in Choka, the Buseioh Koh Hiko's sworn friend, the Grand Preceptor Bunchu, returns from a mission far away. Bunchu is a capable fighter who once took on Dakki. Koh Hiko is certain that he and Bunchu could take out Dakki together, but... Meanwhile, Taikobo faces Nataku, the human paopei with three paopei on his body.

      • EP3 - Yozen

        Dakki suddenly appears before Taikobo and Supushan. The two are bewildered by her presence so far from the palace, but then they realize it's actually Yozen, the only Doshi capable of transformation, in the guise of Dakki. Taikobo rejoices at the appearance of a powerful new ally, but Yozen declares that he intends to test Taikobo first. Meanwhile, Bunchu returns from his excursion to quell the Western prince's rebellion, only to be told that the Buseioh betrayed Choka. Dakki must be behind this, as well...

      • EP4 - The Buseioh`s Rebellion

        Taikobo has taken the role of strategist for the army of Seiki, the western region of Yin, but for some reason he's instructing the soldiers to do farm work. This story began the previous day when Ki Sho, one of the Four Lords, showed up in front of Taikobo while he was fishing the day away. Meanwhile, the Buseioh and his family have left Choka to head for Seiki. Genshitenson, who has sensed that Bunchu would not let Buseioh get away with betraying Yin, dispatches a powerful helper with a deep connection to the Buseioh...

      • EP5 - Two Paths

        Taikobo's party rushes to save Buseioh and his family. But standing before him are four assassins of Kyuryu Island sent by Bunchu, known as the Shisei. Taikobo faces Koyuken, Nataku faces Ri Koha, Yozen faces Ohma... the fierce battles come one after another! Meanwhile, Shinkohyo visits Bunchu at the palace and informs him that the Shisei intend to attack Seiki itself. At last their strongest foe, Bunchu, makes a move himself...

      • EP6 - The Curtain Falls on the Aging Wise Man

        In Seiki, Ki Sho has fallen ill. His son, Shuko, asks Taikobo to meet his brother and Ki Sho's successor, Ki Hatsu, to determine whether he'll be a worthy successor if the worst happens to Ki Sho. Meanwhile, in Choka, Dakki's scheme is still steadily moving forward. Bunchu rebukes her, but at the same time, he can't allow Seiki to continue to exist now that it has become Choka's enemy... Deciding that war is necessary, Bunchu heads to Kingo Island, Konron Mountain's counterpart.

      • EP7 - The Great Sennin World War Begins!!

        The Great Sennin War has begun! Bunchu sets Kingo Island onward for an all-out confrontation with Konron Mountain. Taikobo, who hoped for a peaceful resolution, takes command of Konron Mountain and is forced to counterattack. But Konron Mountain struggles in the face of Kingo Island's overwhelming numbers and powerful main artillery, Tsutenho. They attempt to fire back with Genshiho, but a barrier around Kingo Island blocks the attack. Yozen infiltrates Kingo Island to remove the barrier, but there he meets Ohtenkun of the Juttenkun...

      • EP8 - The Juzetsujin Battle

        Yozen has infiltrated Kingo Island to remove its barrier. He was immediately caught in the spatial paopei of Chotenkun, one of the Juttenkun, but then a sinister aura surrounded him as he began to transform... Meanwhile, on Konron Mountain, Taikobo and the other still have faith that Yozen will remove the barrier, but they have less than four minutes left until Kingo Island's main artillery fires on them. Can they reach Kingo Island in time to crash into it just as the barrier is removed?!

      • EP9 - Concentration

        With unexpected help from Ohtenkun, leader of the Juttenkun, Yozen has removed Kingo Island's barrier. The battle takes a drastic turn as Konron Mountain crashes into Kingo Island. Taikobo makes the decision to infiltrate Kingo Island and rescue Yozen, who is wounded after fighting Chotenkun, but Ohtenkun anticipates his arrival and forms a strategy to counterattack using the Juttenkun. Thus Taikobo, Supushan, and Yozen's master Gyokutei Shinjin begin the rescue mission.

      • EP10 - Rain of Blood

        Taikobo's rescue party struggles against Sontenkun's spatial paopei, Kaketsujin. But Gyokutei Shinjin identifies the real Sontenkun among all the toys in the space and cuts him down. The trio escapes Kaketsujin, but then they receive a message from Ohtenkun telling them that if they want to rescue Yozen, one of them must come alone. Despite knowing it's a trap, Gyokutei Shinjin steps up to enter Ohtenkun's paopei space, Kosuijin.

      • EP11 - Insect

        Gyokutei Shinjin has rescued Yozen in exchange for his life. But Yozen's body is weak due to Ohtenkun's paopei attack, so Taikobo takes him back to Konron Mountain. The enraged Twelve Sennin swear revenge, but Taikobo suggests they split into small teams to infiltrate Kingo Island. At the same time, the Buseioh and Tenka are secretly infiltrating Kingo Island themselves, but they find themselves caught in Fukojin, the paopei of Totenkun. Meanwhile, Taikobo learns that the only way to save Yozen is to defeat Ohtenkun...

      • EP12 - New Romantic

        Taikobo and the rest have split into teams to infiltrate Kingo Island. Taikobo teams up with his long-time friend Fugen Shinjin to search for Kingo Island's core, where Bunchu waits. But on the way, they wander into the spatial paopei Kanpyojin, where they encounter Entenkun of the Juttenkun. Entenkun tries to begin combat using his control of ice through Kanpyojin, but Fugen Shinjin would rather seek a peaceful resolution...

      • EP13 - Mirror

        In a room where an ancient clock ticks away the time, Taikobo sits facing Ohtenkun, who asks him what his choice will be. Ohtenkun's question leads Taikobo on a journey through his own memories... and each of those memories is linked to Ohtenkun's. Yozen, Supushan, the Buseioh, and all the others Taikobo has met face him in turn. Eventually, after a span of time in which past, present, and future seem to intermingle, the mysteries of the Hoshin Project's history come unraveled.

      • EP14 - Parasite

        Ohtenkun's parasitic paopei continues to eat away at Yozen... and now, it's also afflicting all the Sennin of Mount Kongrong. Taikobo's forces are already facing a crisis as all of them except for Nataku grow weaker and weaker. Then Yozen, who had been undergoing treatment at Mount Kongrong, suddenly disappears... Meanwhile, Taikobo meets up with Igo, a new ally.

      • EP15 - Shadow / Light

        Yozen prepares for battle with Ohtenkun to avenge Gyokutei Shinjin, but Kinko Seibo and Yotenkun of the Juttenkun stand in his way. Ohtenkun himself departs the scene, leaving the fighting to the Juttenkun's most powerful duo. Yozen fights them with the help of Igo and Nataku, but they face a difficult battle thanks to the multi-dimensional space created by the Juttenkun duo's paopei. Taikobo tries to come to Yozen's aid as well, but Fugen stops him...

      • EP16 - Tsuten Kyoshu

        Ohtenkun taunts Yozen upon his complete awakening as a yokai, leading him to the founder of Kingo Island himself, Tsuten Kyoshu. Ohtenkun's goal is to see father and son kill one another, in was his own form of ill-omened revenge against all those who twisted his fate. Meanwhile, Taikobo and Fugen make their way toward Kingo Island's power reactor. They talk about destroying the reactor in order to destroy it, but their conversation is intended to lure out Bunchu.

      • EP17 - Fugen Shinjin

        Drained of their energy due to Ohtenkun's mites, the Twelve Elite Sennin temporarily retreat to Mount Kongrong. There they meet Supushan's father, Supu Papa, whom Taikobo had instructed to transform in order to heal the Twelve Elite Sennin. Meanwhile, Yozen confronts Genshi Tenson about his skepticism regarding the Hoshin Project and asking just how much of it is the truth.

      • EP18 - Battle to the Death

        As they watch the Great Sennin World War unfold, Kokutenko asks Shinkohyo which side he thinks will win. Shinkohyo predicts that the victor will be Bunchu, telling the story of why Bunchu continues to protect Yin as its father figure even as the nation is on the verge of ruin. Meanwhile, Fugen stands facing Bunchu alone after his attempt to talk things out with him is cut off... but Bunchu is so powerful that he can't even manage to scratch him. Then Bunchu unleashes a merciless attack with Kinben...

      • EP19 - Bunchu

        As they watch the Great Sennin World War unfold, Kokutenko asks Shinkohyo which side he thinks will win. Shinkohyo predicts that the victor will be Bunchu, telling the story of why Bunchu continues to protect Yin as its father figure even as the nation is on the verge of ruin. Meanwhile, Fugen stands facing Bunchu alone after his attempt to talk things out with him is cut off... but Bunchu is so powerful that he can't even manage to scratch him. Then Bunchu unleashes a merciless attack with Kinben...

      • EP20 - When the Stars Rain Down

        As Bunchu handily brushes off the Twelve Elite Sennin's attacks with his overwhelming power, Taikobo tells Fugen that the moment the stars fall will be their final chance. Back in the Yin Dynasty, King Chu looks unrecognizable. As Shinkohyo watches him through Kokutenko's clairvoyance, he begins to tell the story of the Signpost of History. Meanwhile, at Kingo Island, Fugen uses Taikyoku Fuin to convey Taikobo's instructions to the Twelve Elite Sennin. But the instructions he gives don't quite match Taikobo's...

      • EP21 - Blinding Light, Deafening Silence, and Then...

        Fugen had resolved to take out Bunchu along with himself in a deadly explosion, but Bunchu survived the blast. Bunchu has now set his sights on Genshi Tenson instead and sets off for Mount Kongrong to fight him, followed quickly by Taikobo, Yozen, and Supushan. If even the Twelve Elite Sennin couldn't defeat Bunchu, Taikobo has very little chance... but Taikobo is determined to overcome him, no matter what it takes.

      • EP22 - The Brave Warrior's Soul Is Released

        Ohtenkun lures Bunchu toward the Buseioh. Taikobo, Yozen, and Tenka also arrive, and Ohtenkun activates the paopei Kosuijin right in front of them. In it they see the Forbidden Palace cloaked in red mist... and Bunchu facing off with the Buseioh. Meanwhile, Ohtenkun's scheme brings a certain memory to Genshi Tenson's mind. It happened 2,000 years ago...

      • EP23 - Aged Symbols and Diverging Winds

        Kosuijin's acid has ravaged Bunchu, but Kokukirin musters up the last of his strength to get both of them out of the paopei space. Meanwhile, Taikobo surmises that Kingo Island is about to fall and tells Yozen and the others to start preparing to escape. Taikobo then jumps on Supushan and takes off toward Bunchu. Carrying in his heart the deaths of Fugen, the Buseioh, the Twelve Elite Sennin, and so many others at Bunchu's hand, Taikobo faces a battered and beaten Bunchu. With unwavering resolve, the two opponents begin the final battle. After an eternity, the Hoshin Project will reach its completion!
