Kakeru and the others look for the Ultra-marine Plain. It is said that the tapir of the dark that lives there will lead them to the dark river. The plain, however, moves away every time they approach to it. Here, Kakeru meets a hunter called Pazu who tells him that his son had died "because the tapir of the dark had eaten his good dreams."
